John B. Schoeffel was born in New York 1874. He enlisted in the Army at Fort Bliss, Texas 1894. Assigned to 9th Regiment 1899 and was ordered to the Philippines and arrived March 1899. He participated in many campaigns around Manila Bay and also the battle of Guadalupe Ridge , battle of San Fernando , Santa Rita , Tarlac and others. The Regiment left the Philippines in June 1899 and arrived in China in July. They participated in the battles of Peking, the Imperial City and Walled City. Lt. Schoeffel was transferred from China to Ft Monroe NY and then to Hawaii and then to Alaska 1907 . He had a long career with assignments in Georgia, Arkansas again in China back to New York and Arizona. He retired in 1934 as a colonel and was a active member in many military organizations including the Military order of Foreign Wars, The Military Order of the Dragon, Military Order of Caraboa and others.
